we build platforms to share data safely across organisations.
secure portals for sensitive information
RootScope Labs works with regional bodies, utilities and businesses to design, build and support the platforms they share. Members see the same figures in their own currency, AI tools only see what they’re allowed to, and every organisation stays in control of its own records.
Every member reports in a different spreadsheet
Nobody can say who has seen what
Staff want to use AI, but legal says no
You bring the problem
Members want to work from the same figures, without giving up control of their own data.

how we can help
Most organisations call us at one of these moments. If yours isn't here, tell us anyway.
when your team is at capacity
Priorities pile up and important projects keep getting pushed back. We work alongside your staff, take on whole pieces of work, and hand them over tested and documented.
Custom softwarewhen you need to hear from the people you serve
Complaints and reports tell you what went wrong, not why. We talk to the citizens, customers, and staff who use your services and turn what they say into decisions you can act on.
Research and strategywhen your systems have grown out of step
Years of add-ons leave people juggling screens that don’t match. We review what you have, design a consistent system your developers can build from, and redesign the journeys that matter most.
Service and UX designwhen you want a second opinion before you commit
Before you sign off on a new platform, a replacement system, or a large cloud contract, we review the options and tell you plainly what to keep, fix, or drop.

why we work this way
Most software projects don’t fail because the code is bad. They fail because nobody checked, early enough, whether it would work for the people meant to use it.
We started RootScope to work the other way round. We sit with the people who use your services before we open a design tool, put a prototype in front of them within days, and deliver something real every week so you can see where your budget is going.
You won’t get a report and a goodbye. You get a small, senior team that works alongside your staff, fits your governance, and cares whether the service still works a year after launch.

from first call to working software in weeks, not months
1
Intro call
30 minutes
You tell us what you’re trying to change and where it’s stuck. We tell you honestly whether we can help.
2

Week 1
A scoped engagement, the people you’d work with, and a fixed price or a clear weekly rate, set out to suit your procurement process.
3
Join your team
Week 2
We work inside your existing tools and ways of working. The first conversations with users and early designs arrive within days.
4
Deliver
Week 3 onward
Working software every week, research running alongside, and a measured outcome at the end.
start with a one-week discovery
A small, low-risk way to see how we work before you commit to a larger project. If you decide not to continue, the research and prototype are yours to keep.

What you get
- Five interviews with the people who use your service

questions we get asked
Who do you work with?
Government departments, public bodies, regional organisations, and medium to large businesses, in areas from land administration to energy and utilities. What they share is a service that needs to work better for the people who rely on it.
Do you only design, or do you build too?
Both. The same team researches, designs, and writes the code, so nothing gets lost in a handoff between agencies.
How do you price projects?
Discovery weeks are a fixed price. Longer engagements are either a fixed scope and price or a weekly rate for a dedicated team. You see the cost before any work starts.
Can you work with our existing team and systems?
Yes, most of our work is alongside in-house staff and existing suppliers. We follow your standards, use your tools, and leave everything in a state your team can maintain without us.
Can you work within our procurement and security requirements?
Yes. We can respond to tenders and work to your data protection, accessibility, and security standards. Tell us about your process on the first call and we’ll fit around it.
Who owns the work?
You do. Code, designs, and research belong to you from the day they’re created, and everything lives in your own systems and accounts.
How quickly can you start?
Usually within two weeks of the intro call. If you’re in a hurry, say so on the call and we’ll tell you honestly whether we can make it.
